From the Opus Nutrition Team:

The team was created recognizing the importance of nutritional care as an integral and important part of treating a cancer patient, as well as managing individuals with chronic kidney disease. It seems that there is a huge gap in both areas! That’s why a significant percentage of people do not receive valid and reliable nutrition information.

And here comes the Opus Nutrition service in order to inform you why is nutrition so important, in what we aim for, and what we provide in our clinical practice.

Nutrition care for patients with cancer

The nutritional status of cancer patients is often affected by the disease itself, its symptoms, the side effects of treatments and also patient's psychology. Furthermore, an inadequate dietary intake and a poor nutritional status may have a negative impact on the prognosis, response to treatment and quality of life.

Nutrition care process has been recognized as an important and integral part of cancer patient's treatment, aiming at optimising nutritional status (adequate intake of nutrients and energy, prevention or treatment of weight loss, maintenance of the muscle mass as much as possible) which in turn contributes to better disease outcomes.

Our team's goal is to provide personalised nutritional care, including detailed nutritional assessment, diagnosis of nutrition-related problems, personalised intervention and counseling, as well as follow-up of the patient and reevaluation of intervention’s goals, when necessary. The aim of our initiative isto improvie the response to treatment, functionality and quality of life of the cancer patient.

Nutritional care for patients with kidney disease

The nutrition care process is considered an important and integral part of all stages of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) management. Our main goals are the delay of disease’s progression, the maintenance of a good nutritional status (adequate intake of nutrients and energy, adjusting protein intake based on disease’s stage, weight management, maintenance of muscle mass), the prevention or management of electrolytes’ disturbances (e.g. hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia), the optimal blood pressure and lipids levels as well as glycemic control of patients with concurrent diabetes mellitus.

We aim to provide individualized nutrition care consisted of a detailed assessment of nutritional status, diagnosis of nutritional problems, personalized nutritional support, and counselling as well as follow-up of the patient and re-evaluation of intervention’s goals, when necessary. The aim of our initiative is the optimal support and management of the disease and at the same time the improvement of the functionality and quality of life of the patient.
